  1. What did you do this past week?

I read the textbook, articles, and learned about a few testing libraries. We also learned about unit and acceptance tests. We had our first quizzes and I realize I need to read more. I also started taking notes on our readings in preparation for our test in roughly 2–3 weeks.

2. What’s in your way?

Finishing the project. Originally I thought it could be accomplished fairly quickly, but finishing the multiple components will take longer. I also need to finish up a couple chapters of the readings from the previous week. I still need to familiarize myself with Python 3. This way, I won’t have to keep consulting a reference to script something up.

3. What will you do next week?

I will read chapters nine to fifteen of the textbook. I will also attempt to knock out the project. I am looking forward to applying the principles we have learned in class towards the first project. Namely unit and acceptance tests.

4. What’s your experience of the class? (this question will vary, week to week)

I had a job in software dev before this class. Reading the textbook is really piecing everything together. Back then, I had to quickly Google something to understand the bigger picture of why we were using Agile methodologies or blackbox testing. With the textbook, it really provides a framework for me. The experience has been enlightening. Considering many people have jobs in software dev prior to the class, it would be arguable this class should be a prerequisite even earlier on.

5. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Use Slack integrations! I currently have a group for this class, and we are using Facebook messenger. I imagine you can also use GroupMe, group texts, etc. Now I think about it, a Slack group is definitely more conducive to this particular class. We can easily integrate project planning, task division, or bug tracking into our workflow. The former tool is really only for chat and document sharing. Maybe I’ll suggest it to my group later on when the need arises.
