If you’re a nurse or doctor and you have already started preparing for the OET (Occupational English Test) but don’t know where to start, this article is perfect for you! It comes with advice on how to prepare and what to expect during the exam.

What is The OET?

The OET is a test that measures your English proficiency in a medical context. It is taken by health professionals who need to prove their language skills in order to practice in an English-speaking country. The test consists of four sub-tests: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Each sub-test is worth 25 points, and you need to score at least 80 out of 100 points overall to pass the OET.

Tips for Setting Up Your Study Space

1. Find a quiet and comfortable place to study. This is where you will be spending a lot of time, so make sure it meets your needs.

2. Make sure your space is well-lit and free of distractions. This will help you focus on your studies.

3. Organize your materials in a way that makes sense to you. This will help you find what you need quickly and efficiently.

4. Take breaks as needed, but don’t get too comfortable. You want to be able to focus when it’s time to work.

5. Set up a schedule and stick to it. This will help you stay on track and avoid getting overwhelmed.

Tips for Studying

1. Get to know the OET test format: The OET is a computer-based test consisting of four sub-tests — listening, reading, writing and speaking. Each sub-test is taken on a different day.

2. Familiarise yourself with the OET material: There are two versions of the OET — one for healthcare professionals and one for dentists. Make sure you get your hands on the right study material for your profession. You can also get it from Benchmark OET Material.

3. Create a study plan: Don’t try to cram everything in at the last minute — it won’t work! Sit down and work out a study schedule that fits around your other commitments.

4. Get some practice in: Take some practice tests under exam conditions to get used to the format and timing of the OET. This will help boost your confidence come test day.

5. Stay calm and relaxed: On the big day, try to stay calm and relaxed. If you have followed steps 1–4, you should be well prepared and ready to do your best!

Tips for Test Day

1. Get a good night’s sleep before the test.

2. Eat a healthy breakfast on test day.

3. Make sure you have everything you need for the test, including your ID and admission ticket.

4. Arrive at the test center early so you can relax and get yourself mentally prepared for the test.

5. During the test, take your time and read each question carefully before answering it.

6. If you don’t know an answer to a question, skip it and come back to it later if you have time.

7. When you’re finished with the test, double-check your answers to make sure you didn’t make any careless mistakes.
