What Makes Leaders Stand Out

When you carefully study political campaigns, you would realize that the speeches of contestants are simply vision statements.

What politicians basically do during political campaigns is to sell their vision to the electorates. Through their political rallies and debates, they try to convince the electorates to accompany them on a leadership journey.

They may not call it a leadership journey but that is what it actually is. The electorates on the other hand, follow and vote for the people they feel will truly take them to a place they desire to be.

If they aren’t interested in the destination of a certain contestant, they wouldn’t vote for him or her. So, it all boils down to the vision statement.

The most powerful politicians in history are those who gained prominence by their ability to share a clear-cut vision.

People, all over the world, want to follow individuals who can take them to a place they haven’t been.

And so, leaders who know where they wants to go, and can take others with them are bound to have followers.

Therefore, in communities as well as in organizations, leaders are recognized and followed because of their ability to share and champion a vision.

A person with vision is seen by others as focused and single-minded. You can’t have a vision and not be absorbed by your future. I have never seen a person who knows exactly where he is going and then got lost along the way. Those who miss their way are individuals who don’t have a clear vision.

As long as you know your destination, you will never be out-of-focus. And Trust me; you won’t be confused on which path to take if there’s only one pathway.

The leaders who function by way of visioning usually walk along a particular lane because they are single-minded.

If you have a vision, the most likely outcome is that you will arrive at your destination.

You will know exactly what you want and then go out and get it. And because individuals with vision exude an air of confidence about their future, people like to follow them.

The ability to develop a clear vision is what actually makes leaders stand out.
