Carragher’s accent, grumpy Guardiola, and why English clubs suck balls lately
“Who will win the #ChamionsLeague?”
“Would Barcelona dominate the #PremierLeague?”
“What language do people speak in Liverpool?”
I answer all of these questions below.
Tonight, my brother went to sleep early and my mom was on skype so I was by myself downstairs. (Good start huh?)
And we all know what you do when you are all alone with a decent Wifi connection and a laptop that has a pretty good screen…

I love a Monday Night Football on Sky Sports (I am not sponsored by them yet, so don’t worry).

I mean, listening to Carragher analysing the game is still a bit like when you downloaded a “Chipmunk” version of your favourite Linkin Park song from illegal sources at the age of 13 (not as if I did that or anything)…
My girlfriend said she would not be able to take this “Scouser” accent seriously, but after supporting Liverpool for over 10 years, the dialect sounds boss to me (and still very entertaining).
Anyways, back to football…
It’s half time, 1–0 to Everton and Guardiola is not happy.
Last season he said something really interesting in one of his press conferences where he expressed how surprised he was at the significance of “winning second balls” in the Premier League (PL).
He said that it is not at all a crucial part of the game in either Spain, nor Germany (where he won everything).
I wonder why that is…
Since 2010, when English teams dominated the Champions League, teams from GB struggled against pretty much everyone in Europe.
Western European teams like Napoli, Malaga or Dortmund proved ‘too smart’ on many occasions against English clubs with quick passes and masterminded coaching. And obviously there was the golden era of Barca, while Real got stronger and stronger.
Second balls did not seem to matter on these encounters, or if they did, foreign teams won them all day long.
So? what does this all mean?
I have a very good friend from Budapest who I disagree with on most things (especially those related to football) such as the difference between the role defensive and attacking midfielders, and he always says that if Barcelona or Real Madrid was playing in the Premier League, they would struggle.
Unsurprisingly, I disagree.
In my opinion, if Stoke City, Bournemouth and Swansea played against similar oppositions from Spain (teams like Villarreal, Getafe or At. Bilbao), it would be AT LEAST an equal encounter.
But I would bet on the Spanish teams.
However, I love the Premier League and I still think that it is THE BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD!
I am talking about 1-on-1 games here: Bournemouth vs Villarreal.
Assuming I am correct, the worse 10 teams in Spain would have an equal match against the Premier League’s bottom half teams, it would be equally hard for Barcelona to play against these clubs week in week out.
Consequently, they would not struggle more than they do now.
I just think that English teams had been badly managed in the past few years, although they seem to be compensating for that with famous coaches, and 30-year-old Asian multi-billionaires.
Can’t wait for this season’s Champions League!
My bet is that Atletico Madrid will finally be crowned champions after they ALMOST did it twice, and I predict that they will win with a disgusting own goal in the 87th minute against Bayern Munich.
Let’s see how wrong I will be…
Until then, I wish you all the best!
B
