Karl Marx, King Kong and the End Times… — The Top 10 Burger Places in Prague
Credit to my ‘burger team’: Alejandro Alva, Tristan Cossette and Nicholas Emond.
(Warning: This article was written during our exchange semester in Prague, and has no structure)
We all love a good burger.
As westernized male exchange students, it is part of our own personal mission statements to take the time to appreciate a high-quality burger.
A source of nutrients that is usually confused with the picture of a 50-year-old alcoholic man who smells like urine, while watching his favourite football team on a Saturday afternoon in an Irish Pub.
We are not one of these people.
We know how to eat burgers.
This article aims to record our meandering experience as exchange students in Prague, as well as a guideline to those who are just about to explore the city, or looking for the place that perfectly matches their taste.
It will be a hugely subjective and politically unacceptable writing at times, so if you are not in possession of humour, please stop reading. For those of you who match our criteria, below you can find our top 10+1 burger places that we have visited in descending order.
#Special Burger Recommendation: Bejzment
Location: Andel, Prague 5
Price: average (around 250 CZK for burger, fries and beer)

The burgers here were so messed up that we are not sure where to rank this restaurant. It is out of context. This is what my Mexican burger colleague had to say about his JD Honey burger:
“Soooo the burger is sweet and very messy, it is hard to eat it without looking like a caveman tasting meat after successfully hunting for the first time with a stone fixed to a wooden stick.”
Located on the left side of Vltava, this place really gives you a ‘Prague experience’: people talk about how good it is, you arrive, and in the end you will end up with something big in your mouth. Bejzment is entirely different than what you would expect and at first you might lack the chemistry, but finally you bite into it and fall in love. I will just let this picture of a ‘Ron Jeremy Burger’ speak for itself…
#10: Yes! Burger
Location: multiple — Prague 1, 2, 3
Price: 100–150 CZK
This place is hugely underrated. Open until midnight (and sometimes when the owner is in the mood it is open 24/7), in 3 various locations in the city. The decoration is very user-friendly and the sofas are so comfortable they remind me of an episode in ‘Friends’. If someone could redevelop their poor website and invest in scientific advertising, McDonald’s and Burger King would have to go back home. ‘Yes Burger’ beats them in all quality, price, experience, and “well salted fries percentage”. It is the ideal place for the budget burgerer, who is working all day on his or her online business and gets hungry at 11 pm — go down for a walk, listen to some rock and roll, then take the Bacon Burger Meal I say!
#9: Mozaika & Co.
Location: Prague 3
Price: high
Pretty nice first bite, but then the ‘Juiciness Ratio’ of the bottom started to get out of hands. In the end, the burger was more like a traditional Hungarian soup, rather than a masculine Scottish beauty. Overpriced, charged extra for the fries, sauces and water (!), so ended up spending above 400 CZK which is quite a lot considering the local price level. Come on guys you can do better!
#8: Nase Maso
Location: Right next to Dlouha Trida tram stop
Price: 200–300 CZK for a tiny burger, no fries or drink. High price, but very high quality
Good to go there with your friends, try it out, appreciate the attention to detail, but we would not do repeat business here. Tourist attraction!
#7: Joy Burger
Location: Near Jindrisska, Prague 1
Price: 250–300 CZK. Bit overpriced compared to experience
Located in the wonderful Prague 1, so if you have any economical knowledge you will know that it will surely be overpriced. Which it was. Decent burger though, we like to compare it to the city we checked out later that week: Brussels. You go there, at first you are surprised at the prices (5 euro waffle?!), then you explore it anyways. You see the people, nothing special, you see the buildings, not much going on there either. There are a few surprisingly genius ingredients (eggs=The Atomium or whatever), but they are weirdly located. It is the sort of experience that you check out and then nod your head, while saying: “Hm… Yes.”
#6: Meet & Greet

Location: Near Jindrisska, Prague 1
Price: ~250 CZK. Average prices
First thing that caught our eyes when entering the place was the advanced ‘Burger Game’ that our waiter was in possession of. Very in-depth analysis of each of the products we asked him about, shout out to you fam! So anyway, the burgers were lit: I had the original burger as usual in order to get a feel for the emotions of the place. Must-do!
#5: Bad Jeff’s Barbeque

Location: Near Namesti Miru, Prague 2
Price: Burger — 269 CZK including fries, Beer — 45 CZK
This place is known for its one and only burger, called “Jeffy’s Burger”, so all 5 of us went for it. After finishing, the consensus agreed that the perfectly cooked bacon was a game-changer and that the way the medium-rare meat melted in our mouth is comparable to the first time you engage in coitus. Initially you have your doubts, but once you get in the flow, you just can’t get enough! My favourite analysis of this beauty was made by a guest ‘burgerer’, who called it the “No Bullshit Burger”. It does not try to impress, it was not made to sell or a part of some kind of marketing campaign. It is a genuine burger, and you can feel the heart and soul that is put into the making of each and every one of them.

#4: Cafe Palanda
Location: Namesti Republiky, Prague 1
Price: Average / above average at times
Analysis: Reliable. Good beer. 9/10.
#3: The Tavern
Location: Behind the University of Economics, Prague 3 (Zizkov)
Price: Ranges from 160–230 CZK, there is a far outlier which costs above 300 CZK (according to our burger experts it is well worth it though. Especially because of its name…)
Burgers we tried out:
- The Lokal Burger: Relatively small, good if you still want to walk above 20 metres after your burger
- The Swiss Cheese: oh yes. A bit smelly, but shows that you are educated. Therefore ideal for dates
- Bacon and Cheese: Always safe to go for bacon and cheese.
- The Apoko Burger — for the End Times: Perfect name, created by potheads. (Apparently makes you grow an extra ball…)
#2: Dish
Location: Prague 2, near Vinohradska
Burger: The Original Dish Burger
Alejandro Alva: “So for this burger I did some prior analysis since I knew I was getting the famous burger of our top 1 choice. I look at the menu and started developing a thought of what was I about to get. But then I took my first bite and it hit me, I wasn’t taking this burger for the rational outcome of it, I was taking it because it was my unconditionally moral obligation to eat it before my exchange was over. So I named it the Categorical Imperative, a phrase frequently used in the Kant philosophy.
the reader must be familiarized with Kant philosophy to understand what I am trying to explain.”
Don’t have much to add here. Although I did have to use Google a number of times while reading. Let us know how many words you understood! (It will always be more than what we did, because of the accent…)
#1: Zelva

Location: Biskupcova, Prague 3.
Prices: Low as hell.
Rating: 10/10
Our Recommendation: KARL MARX BURGER (for some reason most people call it the “Flank Burger” haha — what a strange name.)
There are no words to describe this place (perhaps my burger colleagues can help out — DM us if you want to know more!)
So that’s it.
Now if you managed to read this article until this point, that could mean either of 3 things:
#1: I have the writing skills of Tim Goddamn Ferris.
#2: You are VERY passionate about burgers.
#3: You have nothing better to do.
Regardless, we do hope that you enjoyed this article.
Enjoy your burger(s) when you are in Prague.
All the best,
B
