Having worked on both the design and development sides of the industry, I’ve come to realise that “designers need to learn how to code” is usually a polite way of saying “will you stop creating designs that are a pain in the a** to code/require billable hours way beyond the scope of the project”.

I’ve found it’s often more about designers understanding the limitations of code — and designing to them — rather than them expecting them to do any part of their job.
