Period drama is a story based in an earlier time period involving facts embedded in history about a person, event, or an entire dynasty. It takes the viewers back to the lost pages of time giving the perfect feel of that period from costumes, to set-up, characters and everything. 1. Padmavati

The historic tale of Rani Padmavati is being revived on the silver screen by none other then Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. This period drama aims at narrating the saga of vivacious queen of Ratan Singh ‘Padmavati’ and her life. Surrounded by a lot of controversies the ultimate flow of this period drama is worth-watch.

2. Mughal-e- Azam

The story of Akbar the great Mughal (reign 1556–1605) has been told countless times in several films. This epic historical drama was directed by K. Asif. It narrates the immortal love story between Prince Salim (who went on to rule as Emperor Jehangir) and Anarkali, a court dancer. K. Asif magnum opus has almost took a decade in making and became a phenomenal box office.

3. Raj Kahani

Raj Kahani is an Indian Bengali drama directed by Srijit Mukherjee, set during the India- Pakistan partition in the area of Bengal. The main plot involves the group of women who are in a flesh trade, lives in a house headed by begum Jaan (Rituparna).

4. The Legend of Bhagat Singh

This is undoubtedly one of the best films made on the life of martyr Bhagat Singh. Ajay Devgan soul-stirring performance won him a National Award. This movie intensely portrayed India’s freedom struggle and ignited courage among the youth to stand for the change they want to see.

5. Jodha Akbar

This Ashutosh Gowarikar’s narrates the drama of the Mughal Emperor Akbar’s love story with Jodhabai. Hrithik (Akbar) and Jodhabai (Aishwarya) shone beautifully together.
