After a period of watching hundreds of Bauhaus videos on YouTube I came across this little gem. A documentary about a goth nightclub in Batley, West Yorkshire. I don’t know what it’s like in Batley because I’ve never been but I can imagine it’s a pretty grim place.

“If you leave them alone then they are trouble free”

The film basically tries to make goths out to be weirdos. Which they probably are but the two fellas that present it are horrible people. The prick with the moustache interviewing people constantly goes “why do you wear the clothes you do?” and “why do you listen to the music you do?” The only way he’d seem like more of a prick with a moustache was if he was in East London in 2009. But then that would be because there’d be irony in that moustache.

The old fella presenting the documentary genuinely thinks that goths are a different species I think.

This film was commissioned by the owners of the club at the time. I would say it represented the times well but it came out almost ten years before I was born. Either way it’s worth a slog.
