Adventures and Misadventures Outsourcing Life

“The three most harmful addictions are heroin, carbohydrates, and a monthly salary.”
― Nassim Nicholas Taleb

This article is part of the series “Tim Ferriss’ my Life Experiment” where in a month I followed Tim Ferriss teachings to improve my life, health and business.

I ran into an old friend on Monday and after the normal exchange of greetings he asked me what I do for a living? this was a hard question to answer… project manager?, bounty hunter?, or orchestra director?

Whatever the title is, I now can say I just orchestrate a group of experts that will remove the workload from me so I just get busy living.

Everything can be Outsourced

This week I became an expert in different fields without spending more that 3 hours at the computer. The amount of work that got done counts for 3o+ man hours and paid only $75.

Outsourcing is not taking advantage of a worker, let someone else do the heavy lifting o delegate annoying tasks. Outsources are real people and they’re happy to help and use their abilities to earn extra money.

I was procrastinating on the decision to ask for help and hire someone else the work. I never realize there was an expert on the subject somewhere in the world that was willing to help me.

Compound interest is interest added to the principal of a deposit or loan so that the added interest also earns interest from then on. This addition of interest to the principal is called compounding.

Compounding Tasks

I’ve heard the words “Money Doesn’t Change You, It Only Magnifies Who You Really Are” I believe it’s true, I also believe that it can be applied to decisions and tasks.

Everything can and will escalate quickly. Apply money, time and people to a good decision or a task it will grow to be a successful outcome. If applied to a bad one it simulates a Jenga wiggling around escalating into catastrophe.

I borrow this definition from compounding interest because I believe the same can be applied to generate value.

It’s a Journey not Just a Destination

Delegating and outsourcing require the skills of a captain guiding a group of ships towards the same goal. I’ve discovered that I was right no one will pay the same I attention to the work I do, there is more qualified people willing to help me succeed.

Business can be outsourced to create more free time, that doesn’t mean it will make my life more interesting, fun or productive. That’s another adventure I’ve to go discover by myself.
