Web Development. Scratching the creative itch.

This is going to be a short one because I’m running out the door but I woke up this morning with a question and some related thoughts I wanted to share. Does web development scratch the creative itch of making something with your hands? Well, the short answer is yes, but I should elaborate at least a little more.

I come from an art background where most of my days were spent painting and creating things with my hands. It is an extremely fulfilling process that leaves you with an awesome final product you can sell or simply stare at and give yourself mental applause. However, surprise surprise, selling paintings as your only source of income has a not so high success rate, so I began to look for another full-time pursuit that would pay the bills but also scratch the proverbial creative itch.

After a while, I landed on web development, and I can confidently say that you get a very similar feeling when a project is finished. The large time requirement and the visual and explorable final product produces a satisfaction that is hard to beat. Even if you did not conceptualize the entire idea yourself, you can still find yourself with a sense of satisfaction in bringing someone else’s idea to life.
