I said when watching with my roommate that the real “trick” of that final scene was the tension that was created. The cuts to the other diners, the tempo of the music, and the knowledge (sense) that it was coming to an end created a very specific atmosphere. That tension and unease is what Tony lives with everyday. In those final moments we related even more with the character on an emotional level than we would have previously. The cut to black just cemented those emotions and held them sustained just long enough to really drive the point home. I’ve enjoyed other shows but none have given me such a similar emotional/visceral reaction.
