I went and read your Jack’s virgin piece. I have a garden here and so don’t need to buy vegetables at the big store. I buy my fruit, fish, and chicken at the little shops along the walk home from work. I only go to the big carrefour (box store) once every 4–6 weeks to stock up. I feel so guilty pushing the full trolley of tonic, gin, rum, coke, detergent…..and all the other things that are too heavy to pack home on a three-mile walk. Makes me look positively, well fill in the blank but I lived in rural Maine and I know the carts that looked like mine. I want to say I have only driven one tank of petrol a year for the last two years. I want to have a sign I can hang on my trolley/shopping cart. This is only a vague connection to your piece but there are so many food fanatics of varying stripes out there that shopping and eating can become minefields. I will salute with a slice of pizza I got or the hamburguesa americana — no idea what makes in American unless it is the 8% fat.

keep writing.
