Day 9

Arielle and I spent the morning and early afternoon in Pana. First we woke up super early to say “bye” to the rest of the group and then it was back to sleep. When we woke up again we grabbed a quick breakfast, started our laundry and then met rose down near the water for some kayaking.

It was much cooler and darker today so the mountains were shrouded in cloud. Also it was much nicer to be on the water without the sun beating down on us.

After the kayak, we went back to the hotel, took a nap, and got all of our things that weren’t in the laundry ready to go. Today was a big marching band competition in pana so we got to see and hear loud, often quite good, music throughout the day, usually accompanied by dancing out in front.

After checking out, we got lunch with rose and planned to see a museum all about an ancient Mayan city that had sunk into late atitlan, but we were both exhausted so we napped a bit on the porch, packed up the laundry, and caught our shuttle to Antigua.

After a bumpy two and a half hour ride we made it to Bigfoot hostel…. And were immediately offered a shot and a beer. This was not exactly what we wanted after immediately after traveling but we figured why not. We were not, howeve, given the wifi info and some of the other basic things needed at check-in.

We went for a short walk around the nearby square and into the main church that was just finishing up a service. Then we went to an English pub across the street and a Chinese restaurant before realizing that we were way to tired to go out and just passed out. But not before learning that we have to pay to fill up water bottles 😠
