“Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever” (1 Corinthians 9:25)

Apostle Paul likens our Christian life to a race. There are different kinds of contests, and there are many rules which are to be followed precisely. Most importantly, a person who is running the race must keep himself fit. For this reason, he undergoes strict training. That training includes lots of pain and sacrifices. But those sufferings will only help that person to compete in the race and will guide to ultimately reach the goal. If that person reaches the goal successfully, he or she will be crowned. Similarly, in our Christian life, we are called to run a race and that race is to work for the gospel and to spread that good news to everyone. For that reason, we must keep ourselves fit. How can we keep ourselves fit? By avoiding all things that are hindering our gospel journey! Scripture terms those hindrances as ‘non-beneficial things’. So, it is clear that our race is to do the gospel works and our fitness is to avoid things that are hindering this gospel path. If we successfully continue on this journey till death, God will be pleased with us and He will crown us with eternal glory. Amen!
