“Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them” (Matthew 4:21)

James and his brother John were fishermen. They, along with their father Zebedee, were fishing when Jesus called them to follow him. The Apostle Peter was their professional partner. When Jesus called, they left their profession and became his disciples. They were with Jesus Christ on every important event. Even on his last day, Jesus asked both the brothers to be with him. Thus, both James and John were witnessing the life of Jesus Christ from the beginning of his ministry. They continued to do his ministry after Jesus left. During that time, Herod persecuted the disciples, and James was the first apostle to be killed, while John his brother was the last to die, although of old age. God used these two brothers who were fishermen to do His glorious ministry. Indeed, He will use us to be His greatest witness too. Amen!
