“Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died” (Acts 12:23)

Herod Agrippa was assigned as the King of Judea by the Roman Emperor. He was in control of most of that region including Galilee. And Tyre and Sidon were dependent on Galilee for their food supply. Agrippa was angry at them for some reasons, and so they were desperate to get on his good side again. So, Agrippa approached them with pride and posed himself as supreme. Moreover, he killed James and persecuted the Christians. For these reasons, God’s judgment came upon him. He was struck by the angel of the LORD. Historical record states that, immediately he got severe Stomach pains as worms formed and he died a terrible death after five days. King Agrippa’s death shows two important things: God will avenge any supreme power if they touch His anointed ones and secondly, pride goes before a fall. Hence, let us be humble and grateful that the Almighty God protects us. Amen!
