“Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days” (John 2:19)

Jesus was in Jerusalem, near the temple area, and few powerful people were angry towards him. Hence, they asked him to give them a sign. They wanted to know if Jesus was really doing all works through God. Jesus responded saying, ‘destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days’. But the people who heard this were surprised, because it took forty six years to build the temple, whereas Jesus says, he will raise it in just three days. Actually, Jesus was talking about his own body, not the literal temple! Nevertheless, there is a significance, the temple in fact got completed on the ‘third day’ of the month of Adar as per the Jewish calendar. And as we know, Jesus was resurrected on the ‘third day’. Thus, there was a connection between the temple and Jesus’ resurrection. So, the sign was clearly given. Sadly, they did not believe even after his resurrection. But let us be thankful to God because the resurrection of Christ provided the salvation for all. Amen!
