“Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High” (Genesis 14:18)

Abraham surprisingly encountered a person. His name was Melchizedek and he blessed Abraham and received tithes from him. The literal meaning of Melchizedek is ‘King of Righteousness’, and he was priest of God Most High! Scripture says, this Melchizedek was a ‘type of priesthood’ that Christ came from. According to Old Testament, only Levites can become priests and they receive tithes from others. Whereas, Melchizedek received tithes from Abraham, thus he symbolically got tithes from the Levites themselves. Hence, scripture says, the Melchizedek type of priesthood is superior. Thus, Christ came as a priest in the order of Melchizedek, not from the Levitical priesthood. The Levitical priests must offer sacrifices every year, but Christ died only once. Moreover, Levitical priests must offer sacrifice for their own sins as well. Whereas Christ died for the sins of the whole mankind, not for himself. Likewise, there are many hidden truths in this beautiful study. Hence, let us meditate on them and be blessed. Amen!
