“This book is the vision of Nahum from Elkosh. This is the sad message about the city of Nineveh” (Nahum 1:1)

Nineveh was a great capital city of Assyria, and had strong fortifications. They were ruling over the nations for a long time. Hence, they were conceited. So, God sent Jonah to warn them about their arrogance. After they heard that warning message, the whole Nineveh, including the King, observed a fast and put on sackcloth. God was filled with compassion and spared them. Sadly, after this event, the Ninevites, rushed with their sins. Hence, this time, God sent Prophet Nahum and delivered the message that they will be destroyed. As prophesied, in 612 B.C, Nineveh was brought down and fell from its glory. Surely, our Lord is compassionate and merciful. He gives us ample chances to repent. But, if we continue with our unrepentant acts, we must expect wrath from the Almighty God. Hence, let us examine ourselves and mend our ways. Amen!
