“You are to be holy to me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own” (Leviticus 20:26)

God often tells His people to be holy. The word holy is mostly taken from the Hebrew word ‘Qodesh’, which means ‘set apart’. So, God is holy because He is set apart! But He is ‘set apart’ from what? From all evil and unrighteousness. After the fall of mankind, the majority of the people rushed into sin. Hence God selected few faithful men in the past and set them apart from the rest of the world. Similarly, in the Old Testament, God set apart the nation of Israel and gave them His commandments so that they can be part of His holiness. Likewise, in the New Testament, God has given us the gospel of Christ. When we repent and accept the gospel, God sets us apart from the rest of the world and give us His holy spirit. Thus, holiness is a ‘unique’ quality of God and we can be holy, only when we are associated with God. Hence, let us do more of God’s work such that we can become more and more holy. Amen!
