Final Idea and Recipe

My final cookie idea I called the four course frenzy, The idea was to combine the 4 phases of a meal, starter, appetizer, main and dessert into one cookie form. I attempted to combine these in a 3 dimensional shape so that you would rotate the cookie to a new side to switch from one course to the next. I thought this would be a creative a unusual social way that friends could share the “experience” of f meal with the brevity of a quick cookie. I combined a kale salad, pierogi appetizer, artichoke peppers and garlic main and a peanut chocolate dessert.

Recipe

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1.5 cups of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2.5 cups of flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • .25 cup crushed peanuts
  • .5 cup of minced kale
  • .25 clove of garlic
  • 2 artichoke hearts
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 baked potato
  • .25 cup parmesan cheese

Idea Generation

I started by brainstorming all the possible ideas I could think of, and tried to explore lots of different aspects of the cookie besides its flavor such as shape, social engagement and eating experience. After compiling a number of possibilities the two I chose to pursue were the instrument cookies and the 4 flavor cookies. Trying to combine the 4 flavor categories of sour sweet salty and bitter seemed like an interesting challenge and I picked the instrument cookies because it was one of the few ideas that did not prioritize flavor.

Idea 1

My first idea was to make a set of playable noise makers cookies, First was to make a shaker by forming a cylindrical domes that I could then entrap M&Ms inside of. The cylinders failed to maintain their shape while baking so I attempted to achieve a similar design with graham crackers which were more structural and had more dynamic acoustic qualities. I formed an encasement with the crackers that was secured with frosting.

Idea 2

My second Idea was to create a cookie that combined the 4 primary flavors of sour sweet salty and bitter I started with a basic dough that altered for the 4 flavors. The sour was achieved by chopping and mincing sour patch kids that were then incorporated into the dough. To achieve sweet I went for a classic sugar cookie with a lil extra on top. For the salty I crushed up pretzels and salted peanuts. Lastly to achieve bitter I used an excessive amount of baking cocoa and added chunks of extra dark chocolate.

Iteration

I didn’t feel like the flavors connected in a meaningful way so I decided to think of the cookie as a 4 course meal instead. I used the template of a salad, appetizer, main, and desert so that I could combine different flavors but have a cohesive reason to combine them. I broke the “courses” into a kale salad, pierogi appetizer, roasted artichoke red peppers and garlic for the main, and chocolate peanut crunch for dessert.
