Talk about a day of Angels. Today I reconnected with my dear friend Kimberley Hinckle, a State Safety Specialist State Compensation Insurance Fund. We met at the Library just before the cousins made a detour for a massage to ease stress. It was a pleasant surprise because in 2012 Kimberley had arranged for me to interview her relative about a portion of Interstate 80 between Vacaville and Dixon named after The Tuskegee Airmen. As Public Information Officer for the Department of Transportation District 4 between 2008 and 2009 I was actually part of the team that promoted that portion of the highway to be named after the black WWII heroes because some of them retired in Solano.The Tuskegee Airmen ( is the popular name of a group of African-American military pilots (fighter and bomber) who fought in World War II. ) I am glad to see that Assemblywoman Lois Wolk persisted in making that initiative come to fruition in 2014. The story of the Tuskegee Airmen was turned into the movie Red Tails, which put David Oyelowo into the limelight. And That was why Kimberley scheduled an interview with Lisa Just before she left for China. Well that interview is now a reality.
James Warren and Willie Rogers are now gone. So we have an important call to keep their memories alive in collaboration with Lisa who received her B.B.A. from Howard University, her M.B.A. from Atlanta University and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in African American Studies from Temple University. As a historian for the Tuskegee Airmen Oral History Project, she interviewed over 250 Airmen.
They both inspired the Stephen Spielberg Movie “Red Tails” And Just before we scheduled the interview Doctor Bratton took off for China and Taiwan where she taught at the Center for Chinese Studies on May 1, 2014. Dr. Lisa Bratton is an American scholar who is currently an assistant professor in Tuskegee University, US. Her research topic is The Taiwanese Struggle for Independence through the Lens of the Black Experience in the United States and South Africa. She is now back stateside. Her host institute in Taiwan is the Historical department of National Chengchi University.

Our prolonged embrace in front of the house kind of stopped traffic, and reminded us of our drop, cover and earthquake hold drill under the table at work.
