City of Dixon Emphasizes Parks and Recreation As Foundation for Good Health, Economic and Environmental Well being of Local Community, Region and Nation

Dixon, Calif: On the calendar for its regular meeting on June 21’st the Dixon City Council in a public proclamation and recognition declared next month Parks and Recreation month ahead of fireworks expected for 4th of July Celebrations.

From Coronavirus to the spike in gas prices and the war between Russia and Ukraine, last night’s recognition of the value of Parks in these unusual times, is certainly timely, visionary and a breath of fresh air for locals.

“WHEREAS parks and recreation programs are an integral part of communities throughout this country, including Dixon, California;

and WHEREAS our parks and recreation are vitally important to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in our communities, ensuring the health of all citizens, and contributing to the economic and environmental well-being of a community and region;

and WHEREAS parks and recreation programs build healthy, active communities that aid in the prevention of chronic disease, provide therapeutic recreation services for those who are mentally or physically disabled, and also improve the mental and emotional health of all citizens;

and WHEREAS parks and recreation programs increase a community’s economic prosperity through increased property values, expansion of the local tax base, increased tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction;

and WHEREASS parks and recreation areas are fundamental to the environmental well-being of our community,” read the night’s proclamation autographed by Mayor Steve Bird.

The ensemble and supporting cast featured Rashida Jones as Ann Perkins. Both daughters of black America’s most popular music producer Quincy Jones, Rashida younger sister of Kidada Jones are blood relatives since 1990.

In last night’s proclamation at City Hall Mayor Steve Bird declared that “WHEREAS parks and natural recreation areas improve water quality, protect groundwater, prevent flooding, improve the quality of the air we breathe, provide vegetative buffers to development, and produce habitat for wildlife;

and WHEREAS our parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological beauty of our community and provide a place for children and adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors;

and WHEREAS the U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Parks and Recreation Month;

and WHEREAS Dixon, California, recognizes the benefits derived from parks and recreation resources NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY the City Council of the City of Dixon hereby proclaims that July is recognized as Park and Recreation Month in Dixon, California.”

Certainly a fortuitous and visionary move by the City of Dixon.

  • A resolution adopted authorizing the City Manager to execute Amendment 2 extending the term of the City’s Professional Services Agreement (PSA) 19–051 with Holt of California, Inc. (“Holt”) to June 30, 2023.   • Contract Award for the 2022 Pavement Preservation Project -(“Project”) to VSS International, Inc., the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, authorizing City staff to execute a construction agreement with VSS International Inc. for $447,572 for construction of the Project, and establishing a Construction Contingency of $44,757 (10% of the construction agreement amount); and
  • Authorization of City Staff to execute Task Order Amendment №612.1 for Harris & Associates (“Harris”) to provide construction management, and inspection services for an amount not to exceed $60,640- and the included budget transfer request.   • Homestead Phase 2B Village 9 Subdivision Improvement Agreement and Final Map Adopt Resolutions: Authorizing the execution of a Subdivision Improvement Agreement, approving the subdivision Final Map, amending the Fiscal Year 2021/22 budget to include associated revenues and authorizing the City Clerk to record said items, as required, for the Homestead Phase 2B Village 9 Subdivision; and Finding the installation of stop signs associated with the Homestead Phase 2B Village 9 Subdivision to be Class 1 Categorically Exempt per Section 15301 of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and authorizing the installation of stop sign traffic controls.
