Hooray!

Dixon High School’s Varsity team forward Brianna Humphries is the fan favorite for basketball aficionados in Norcal and the Bay Area, proven in a Bee poll announced on Saturday.

With more than 20,000 votes counted, a place in Dixon Sports pantheon is assured for the Dixon High Senior, who will be headed to a Christian College in the San Diego area, in the fall on a softball scholarship.

In her final season she averaged 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and over two steals and blocks per game.

The highlight of an exceptional season was emphasized by a 27 Points, 16 Rebounds and five assists performance in her team’s 48–42 triumph over Calaveras at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division Championships.

That remarkable accomplishment was just one of 15 double-doubles posted by Brianna in season play that also saw her emerge for the Player-of-the-Game award on 14 occasions. That game was played at the Sacramento King Golden One Arena last month to earn Dixon High a 27–4 record.

In the Bee poll, Folsom High School junior Charlotte Climenhage finished second. Rocklin High School senior Keke Scott was third.

Vanden High School’s Allyson Jackson was in contention for a place on who would be the people’s choice. However Allyson Jackson’s final placement was not available at press time. “I don’t have those numbers on final tally as they have been scrubbed,” informed the Bee’s Joe Davidson.

“It is really special what she has done for our community. I think she’s done a lot for the program and is one of probably two players that has really elevated our exceptional basketball program” said Gilliard, who plans to return for a 10th Season as Varsity Girls Basketball Coach. Mike Gilliard retired from Travis AirForce Base.

The other extraordinary Dixon High product is Civil Engineering Major Katie KD (aka Mac) Mackenzie from 2015, whose alma mater is Chico State. https://chicowildcats.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/katie-mackenzie/4325

In a statement on this great news for the town Athletic Director Brett Peterson said “Brianna is very deserving of this accolade. She has been a dominant force in basketball since her freshman year. Bri is a 3 sport athlete who excels in each sport. This year she helped water polo and basketball win league and section titles… Bri is a great kid to have on campus, she is a role model for all younger student athletes. Congrats Bri!!!!!!”
