After a two year break from the Coronavirus top flight athletes from County High Schools will travel to Buchanan High School in Fresno, the mecca of high school sports competition, for a two day meet May 27–28 to crown California’s best track and field high school athletes at this location https://www.visitfresnocounty.org/listing/veterans-memorial-stadium/582/ ( About 5 hours away from one of the most resourceful centers for Veterans services in the Nation https://veteran.uci.edu/ )

After a stellar season Dixon High School’s Katelyn Peterson has a good chance to represent at Clovis by virtue that she placed fourth in the Discus event at the Sac Joaquin Section Masters concluded in Davis on May 22.

“ Top 3 go to state and all three of those girls stated that they would go. So Katelyn will not be going to state,” said DHS Track and Field Coach Nate Patterson on Tuesday.

The top three finishers in the discus were as follows Mellion Galadriel, Sariyah Horne El Camino and Julia Pisenti Bear River. In the triple jump finals Destiny Potier jumped 34’-11.5” and did not medal.

Peterson, who will start classes at Princeton University in the Fall earned the right to compete in the State finals with a heave of the discus for a distance of 128’-3” much better than her sixth place finish in the Shot Put. She threw a distance of 36’-10” in an event where Enoch’s Abayomi Babalola won the gold in the Men’s Varsity.

Lucas DeDora, the other DHS student at the Master’s in Davis, threw 42’-6” in Men’s Varsity Shot Put and finished in 20th place.

At the Master’s Meet in Davis in 2019 just before the State Championship at Clovis’ Veteran Memorial Stadium, former DHS student Marcus Gelphi, now at Mount Diablo College in Contra Costa County, achieved a Personal Best in the high jump with a leap of 6- 06 : 00.

On Saturday Davis High School’s Ray Oldham leap over the bar at 6–07–50 eclipsed Marcus Gelpi’s silver medal jump.

In the Women’s varsity Hurdles three athletes led by Lincoln High School’s Yvette Harris PR’d. Behind Harris’ time of 42:61 were Christian Brother’s Keilee Hall and Isabel Perez-Zoghbi. Their times were 42:76 and 44:06, respectively.

Another major highlight at the Davis meet was in the 800 meters Women Varsity final where Oakdale’s Haleigh Humble earned the gold medal with a time of 2:13:79 followed by Edison’s Aaliyah Williams and Rio Americano’s Summer Doyle.

At the Buchanan meet on May 27–28 the best chance for a medal will be from Fairfield High School’s Senior Mikelia Strong. After a second place finish with a time of 25:00 in the 200 meters behind Saint Mary’s Kori Field’s she upped her game and won the 400 meters with a time of 56:38.

Meanwhile in their first playoff game last Thursday an Aemmonn Rosenberger walk-off sealed a 5–6 win over Casa Robles to set up a section game played last night.

The game on Thursday came down to the wire. The Rams scored their win “On a dramatic walk-off double … The game was tied at five with the Varsity girls batting in the bottom of the Seventh when Rosenbergerr doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Dixon Varsity Rams earned the win despite allowing Casa Roble to score three runs in the first inning. Casa Roble scored its runs on a home run by Hanes.
