A Russian Man Has Been Charged In The Death Of U.S. Student Catherine Serou, in a case with accomplices in Africa and here
Authorities in Russia have charged a man with murder in the death of U.S. student Catherine Serou, who went missing last week and was later found dead.
A local court said suspect Alexander Popov gave Serou a ride before taking her to a wooded area where he beat and stabbed her during a “dispute,” The Associated Press reported.
Popov, who is reported to have a record of violent crimes, could face life in prison if convicted.
Serou’s mother, Beccy Serou, told NPR last week that her daughter was in a hurry last Tuesday to return to a clinic in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, about 250 miles east of Moscow, where she had made a payment that didn’t go through. The 34-year-old graduate student and former U.S. Marine had enrolled in a master’s program in law at Lobachevsky University in Nizhny Novgorod in 2019 and hoped to pursue a career as an immigration lawyer, her mother said. The Evelyn Igbinovia Hotel Puzzle And Most Interesting Man in the World and another Perspective on the Genoa Bridge Collapse
Believe it or not, every new day is an opportunity to solve a series of inexplicable jig-saw puzzles that have cast a shadow on my life since the death of my brother Doctor Herbert Essien in 1997 and the death of my cousin Sadie Ette in 9/11. And before that Brazil in 1987.
And of course this intricate web is from coverts and executives who have some really serious atrocities to hide. The misuse of human remains and parts for a bizarre experiment.
Think of the misuse of illegally obtained DNA samples (beginning in 1991 after my affair with Kimberly Porter) and body parts without our knowledge and you get the clue about this bizarre white-wash red herring scheme which would make Adolf Hitler turn in his grave.
One of the latest chapters in this covert puzzle has to do with the name Evelyn Igbinovia who was my girlfriend in Benin, Edo State between 1985 and 1988, when I last saw her. Evelyn visited me at my Protea Hotel Room in Benin City while I was on assignment for Newswatch as a journalist. She was about 20 years old at that time and I recall the pleasant time we had and pictures we took with Champagne glasses in our hands. Only God knows what has happened to those pictures, which I had in my album when I arrived America in 1989.
We had a very good relationship including nightclubbing, going to watch football matches and events together. But I never had sex with her. And my late cousin Solomon Roberts, who is now a Paramount Chief remembers her because we visited his home when he lived in Benin City. I and Solomon have some God-ordained stories in our lives including surviving one of Nigeria’s worst stadium tragedies. We were among fans who were almost trampled to death when 25 soccer fans lost their lives at the Stadium Stampede in 1979 after the FA Cup Semi-final game between Bendel Insurance (formerly Vipers Football Club) and IICC Shooting Stars of Ibadan. Well what about Evelyn?
I became worried when I completely lost trace of Evelyn in Nigeria sometime in 1988. At one point I heard she was in Kaduna State and traveled as a journalist to investigate her whereabouts there with no results. Up till today my friend and my sister-in-law Nekpen Emovon-Edokpayi are puzzled about the whereabouts of Evelyn Igbinovia.
The last I heard is she was in Italy where there has been a series of terrible tragedies linked to Nigerian women selling themselves to Italian men. I was in Italy in 1988 to investigate the shipment of toxic wastes to African countries and also investigate the illicit traffic of women from Nigeria in a story for Quality Magazine titled “From Italy With Love.”
As a matter of fact my investigation in the company of concerned Nigerian Students in Pisa, led by their President Udo Enwereuzor, opened a can of worms and my investigative story led to an Interpol breakthrough in the illicit sale of Nigerian women in Italy. And at no time in Italy was I involved in any illicit contact with any woman. Italian female journalist Raccaella Gonnali, who collaborated with me on the story, is a journalist and our contact was on a professional level. And I did not meet her on the train.
In hindsight every time I think of my friend from the 80’s my subconscious is overwhelmed with Evelyn Champagne King’s “Shame.” I just hope she did not get involved in something else that would be shameful because she was a beauty queen with the best legs I have ever seen. And I pray she is still alive wherever she is. But my gut instinct tells me she may have died in Italy. I just pray that whatever happened to Evelyn is an Act of God. The fact is the last time I saw Evelyn was as a journalist for Newswatch, and she was just an innocent young lady who may have been led astray later on in life. She visited me but we did not have sex in Benin. The God Instinct! And so if the coverts know of Evelyn and asked someone to lie about me and her wouldn’t that be an extreme crime. So if they lied about I and Evelyn, imagine how many cold-hearted lies have emanated from that source? As a cover up for what? The fact is none of this makes any sense to Adolf Hitler or even Saddam Hussein!

I remember the first day at New swatch with excitement. I had walked into the office of the late Dele Giwa, the magazine’s Editor-in-Chief to receive my letter of appointment. Giwa, who is one of my role models, had told me: ‘Ben, you know this is a whole lot different from the Observer (where my journalism career started). I give you six months to perform, if you don’t you will be fired.” My reply was simply “try me.” I did not disappoint in my job as an investigative journalist and top-notch sports writer, and I became the envy of the newsroom not only for my exclusive sports/news stories. I was also one of the most sought-after bachelors in the newsroom by the bevy of beautiful ladies on staff. At the time I left Newswatch in 1989 I was also the most-traveled reporter because of my sports beat. Six months after being hired at Newswatch I was made a staff writer. Giwa died eight months after my promotion, in a parcel bomb incident. I was at home in Festac with Wuraola Ogunsanya, an Intern and my Muslim girlfriend, on that day. A day before his murder he had asked me to give the Thomas Cook Estacode I was supposed to use to travel to Scotland for the Commonwealth Games, which Nigeria boycotted because of Apartheid South Africa. Four months after my mentor’s death I was made a senior staff writer. With this elevation more editorial responsibilities and traveling opportunities have taken me to more than 21 countries. In 1989 I moved to the United States as a correspondent for the magazine.

Bernard and his wife were close friends that I and my ex used to visit. So glad to see that they are still together and blessed with two lovely children. The other pictures show me at the UI graduation of the girl I was supposed to marry and in Zaria, during her NYSC, at the home of Professor Dan Aighewi. My ex is a statistician with the Central Bank and the photos on the lawn were taken at the University of Ibadan home of Professor Sunday and Mrs. Ekaette Ette (My Aunty and mother of Sadie.) My Aunty introduced me to my ex. And I am her very first boyfriend, and of course she was always with me at Shomolu. I shared an apartment with my late sister Edowaye. The other picture shows Wuraola Ogunsanya, who I dated at Newswatch, and is no longer in the picture. Austen Oghuma, who is seen behind me in the photo of the Newswatch soccer team, is a CSU Northridge graduate and journalism colleague. He returned home a few years ago because of extreme intimidation and unusual surveillance. Drone, anti-immigrant and surveillance nightmares apparently prompted him to leave America. We all have no clue what all of this puzzle is linked with.
