Where Are the Ghosts? In 2010, I attended a three day conference of AASCIF (American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds) at the popular Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin. Texas. Built in 1886 the Driskill, ranked as one of the most popular hotels in the country, is also where President Lyndon B. Johnson proposed to his wife. Driskill’s other claim to fame is that it is one of America’s most haunted places. The team from SCIF(including Carlos Zamora, Jennifer Vargen) as well as AASCIFmembers from 26 different states, plus 8 workers’ compensation boards in Canada also had a good time in Austin visiting local attractions including the Salt Lick, one of the most famous BBQ spots in Texas. On the last day as my niece picked me up for the ride to the Austin-Bergstrom Airport I kept wondering why there is so much hoopla about ghosts at the Driskill. I never saw one, maybe because I don’t believe in ghosts. And of course I am not gay. But how did she get images of a State employee and his partner in Austin?

While attending the 2010 conference of the American Association of State Compensation Insurance Funds (AASCIF) in Austin, Texas I stayed at the Iconic Driskill Hotel. For those who don’t know, the Driskill, where President Lyndon Johnson met his future wife, is one of the oldest operating and best known hotels in the USA. Its other claim to fame is the alleged supernatural activity throughout the building. But as my niece (Senior Attorney at Texas Association of School Boards) picked me up for the ride to the airport I wondered about all the stories of hauntings. I am not a ghost-buster but after a three night stay there the stories seemed kind of far-fetched to me. Did the ghost arise from a bugging device in the inside pocket of a Man in suit who sauntered past me in the Hotel Lobby while I waited for my niece?
