Go Green — Print Less, Save Joe Biden’s Infrastructure Bill, As Leon Pannetta Warns American Lives Are At Stake
In this era of Climate Change initiatives, illegally faxed medical and Paris Vacation Images, that have triggered a global crisis with the Coronavirus and a likely war between Russia and Ukraine that could lead to a Nuclear Global Conflict, here are some great tips for everyone who wants to go green. This article written by me first appeared in Insight Magazine, a publication of California State Compensation Insurance Fund.

John Barbarieri of Business Services and his team are tasked with a pressing corporate initiative: To trim the amount of paper and postage State Fund currently uses by a whopping fifty percent in 2012. The stakes are high, considering State Fund’s budget for paper and postage topped $15 million this year alone.
To succeed John needs to play the role of enforcer, environmentalist and preacher all in the hopes of getting employees to think hard about their printing habits.
In our business, printing has always been second nature at the State Fund. Ready and available printers were housed in practically every office. Printing made it possible to correspond and provide valuable information to our clients. It was simply a part of doing business. But in a new era of technology, we can harness electronic tools to cut down our dependency on paper and printed material.
Enter the Go Green-Print Less Initiative. This 16-member task force will explore every possible way to reduce our printing by introducing electronic solutions and innovations ranging from an approval process for all print shop orders to eliminating all non-regulated and non-essential printing.
John estimates that when this initiative is fully implemented savings for State Fund could range from $5M to $7.5M annually.
“We are at the point where we no longer need to depend on physical paper to get critical business information to our clients or to conduct daily business at State Fund,” comments John. “Computers afford us the luxury of going paperless.”
The task list of the team includes not only removing inefficient printers and questioning reports that we have always printed, but also looking at new technology — such as providing injured employees with debit cards rather than old-fashioned checks and electronic payments with vendors.
“In a sense it’s like a web,” John says of the initiative. He believes “that each lead takes us on another path and pulling on each string of that web is exactly how we will succeed.”
Joby Thomas, an Assistant Manager in Corporate Claims Operations (CCO), and a member of the Go Green team, concurs.
Joby believes State Fund, injured employees, employers, applicant’s attorneys, medical providers/vendors will all benefit from the Go-Green-Print Less initiative. He says the biggest return on investment for the organization is focusing attention and solutions on Electronic Claim Files letter printing, adding debit cards and electronic payments as an option to check printing, and reducing postage costs. Converting most if not all of the 3.5 million claim letters sent by U.S. Mail annually to a paperless method will have huge gains for all stakeholders.
Joby adds, “In CCO specifically, we are looking at mass mailing projects that can be converted either to an online self-service or e-mail with PDF process. This will cut down on paper and save us time.”
Personally, Joby says he now makes every effort to not print things he normally would have in the past.
“We need to pause before we hit the print button on our computer,” comments Joby. “When you think about it most of the time we really don’t need to take that extra step to print out what we see on the computer screen. I find myself now reviewing documents online and jotting down notes on scratch paper.”
The Go-Green-Print Less committee targeted more than 160 items that State Fund traditionally printed-including publications as well as policy, renewal, and new business documentation — and challenged the organization to find alternatives to printing, such as making them available online or e-mailing them to customers. They are also looking at changing the subpoena review process to an electronic review procedure that can be downloaded to CDs. The elimination of non-essential print jobs such as the medical records filing is also in review.
For each of these items slated for reduction or total elimination the team has an electronic option. The team is also looking at creating efficiencies such as eliminating pre-printed letterheads for example. The team will be asking all programs to utilize approved electronic templates that are easily accessible in Microsoft Word. A dedicated Web site has been created to serve as a resource and give users updated information on the Go Green Project and can be found in Real Estate Management’s home page.
State Fund’s Go Green initiative is a trend that has taken roots in the financial and health services industries, where many companies and agencies are digitizing processes-not only because of regulatory requirements but also because it makes good business sense.
What all of this means for State Fund employees is a seismic change in work habits. “We need to significantly reduce printing at the State Fund. Electronic platforms at our disposals allow us to break away from the printing norms we have all been used to for so long. Less printing translates to a healthier environment, and impacts our Bottom-Lie. But in order for this to work it is important for all of us to make some adjustments in the office and think twice about printing,” emphasizes John.
Thanks Alisa. All Clear. And Of Course I Am Black And Clean. #18

This 2014 letter to the CIA’s Inspector General channeled through the US Embassy in Lagos (I was in Nigeria to recuperate from medical — gastrointestinal complications and a traumatic event in the family — spotlights how falsehoods on paper and Carbon have raised global tensions.

An Open Letter to the CIA’s Office of Inspector General
Based on my contacts and discussions with the Office of Senator Dianne Feinstein and a recent appointment with the US Embassy in Lagos, there is no doubt that a maze of intrigues and systemic abuse pattern that I have dealt with for more than five years now runs right through the Capitol Beltway in D.C.
One of those letters was sent at 8 p.m. on August 8, 2013 and another on June 28, 2013, in which Feinstein, (who is the senior United States Senator from California who is also Select Committee Chairman on Intelligence since 2009) urged me to report any concerns directly to the Central Intelligence Agency Office of Inspector General. I was advised by the Embassy to contact the CIA through your web site, but I don’t know how much good that would do.
So because I do not have any way of reaching David Buckley, the CIA’s Inspector General , here are my questions publicly.
What is all of this about? Does it have to do with my compulsory national youth service with the Nigerian Military School in Zaria, Kaduna State, or my stint as a journalist in Nigeria and stories I wrote then before immigration to the U.S. in 1989, or my vacation with my late brother-in-law in Dubai in the 80’s, with Sadie Ette, my late cousin who was among 9/11 victims, or impassioned letters to the editor while I was editor of the Dixon Tribune during the Iraq war, or missing/manipulated photos from family albums , or is this remotely connected with my late brother Dr. Herbert Essien and his research work and patents while he was with Bio Rad Laboratories in Hercules, California.
What exactly is all of this all about? Simple fact is I am not a criminal, not molested anyone and have not done anything against the rule of law, and I am waiting for the knock on my door if you have any questions for me, instead of a red herring scheme.
Authorities anywhere in Nigeria who may have questions for me also know where I am, and are welcome to come forward instead of intrigues and schemes. Fact is I am a law abiding citizen, have always been one with no criminal record, so these stupid backslapping politicking simply has to stop! I know that Barrister Mohammed Bello Adoke, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the Nigerian Attorney General is an accessible man of law. And one more thing, I do not have anything against President Obama’s same sex agenda, but do not use me as a propaganda tool simply because I have never been involved in a same sex relationship (young or old) in America or Nigeria. It is time to end these damaging fairy-tales in the USA and Nigeria now: http://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/
