A Poem A Day 24th August 2017

When the News Comes

When the news comes it comes in the middle of the night

Creeping up and tapping you and clearing its throat

And it whispers because it’s late

And it doesn’t want to wake anyone

When the news comes it leaves politely

Leaves you to your own devices

Leaves you to your own

When the news comes it gives you time and gives you space

To hope for the best

And hope for the worst

And know they are the same thing

When the news comes it comes in the dark

And takes the last of the light with it when it goes
