As with most college towns, bars around Fort Collins have found ways to provide discounted drinks and cheap inebriation to it’s citizens on every night of the week. Literally every weeknight has an associated bar that will be providing you with strong drinks at low prices.

While it is easy to choose a night that works best for your consumption practices, there is one night in particular, that on a weekly basis ensures hundreds if not thousands of Fort Collins locals will not be enjoying the following morning. I am of course talking about Thursdays, and here I will be providing you all with a step by step guide to enjoying your evening without ruining Friday morning.

1: Choose your route wisely

Choosing the bar to spend your Thursday night in Fort Collins in is a lot like picking a urinal at a crowded sporting event, while you can’t really go wrong in the decision making process, there are certain locations you can end up at that are sure to get you some dirty looks. Because of this, it is important to understand the crowd at each of the available bars.

Ram Band is a deal offered through CSU/Fort Collins that gets you unlimited well drinks between 9 pm and 12 am on Thursday for the slim price of $10. Included in the band are three bars; Yeti, Rec Room, and Drunken Monkey. Yeti and Rec Room are your more typical college bars, complete with loud music and strobe lights that are sure to leave you wondering if you’ve been talking with your friends or people who just kind of look like your friends for the past three rounds of drinks. Drunken Monkey is a much tamer option, and has a vibe similar to the Cabana at a Sandals Resort. If you were hoping to take advantage of the bottomless drink deal in a environment comparable to your single uncle’s “Man Cave”, Drunken Monkey is the place for you.

Road 34 is the only West Side bar in this list, but is a great choice for those hoping not to Uber into Old Town. Their Thursday night deal list includes $3 Odell and New Belgium draft beers, which is very on par with their stereotypical Fort Collins vibe. A hybrid between bike shop and bar, Road 34 is the best location for the beer drinkers and conversationalists hoping to avoid the hustle and bustle of Old Town.

Bondi Beach Bar is the final choice for those looking to get a head start on their weekend. Choosing to go to Bondi is not a decision that should be taken lightly, as there are certain implications that come with this bar. The drinks are strong but the price is low, and the music is sure to be disorienting. I don’t know how to properly explain the place that transitions from family friendly eatery to roaring college bar in a 30 minute turn around, but if you don’t care about Friday, this is the place to be.

2. Pacing Yourself

This step is especially applicable to college students, who have fondly adopted the ideology of the “pre-game”. While getting a drink or two in you before going to the bars can be beneficial both fiscally and socially, if over done, it can have a dire impact on your evening. Considering the low drink prices associated with Thursdays in Fort Collins, I would say skip the Thursday night pre-game and get to the bars early to beat the rush.

Over drinking can have side effects far worse than a hangover, so it is important to remember your limits and take steps towards developing good pacing practices.

3. Hydration

I know it sounds soft, but it is extremely important that you surprise your liver with a glass of water every once in a while, especially if you are on the fringe of binge drinking. My advice would be to order a glass of water with a lime. That way, if one of your friends who is particularly anti-h2o begins to question whats in your glass, you can tell them it’s a double Tequila and soda. No matter how broken of a home they come from, not even your most rambunctious of friends will be asking for a sip of that, and you can continue down the casual pathway to intoxication while they go speeding into the roadside gutter that is over consumption.

Hydrating while drinking is not only good for the longevity of your evening, but can heavily impact the longevity of your life. For more information on the importance of drinking water in between your alcoholic beverages, click here.

4. Set an alarm on when to return home.

It is very easy to lose track of time and reality when you are in a crowded bar bumping into like-minded, dancing individuals. By setting an alarm, preferably with an embarrassing title, you will be ousted by others as well as yourself, and will have little reason to remain at the watering hole.

No matter your plans for the next day, it is important that you get around eight hours of sleep each night.

While there are many other things to consider before partying on a weeknight, if you follow these steps you are likely to have a better morning than if not followed.
