Every Greek myth gives you a life lesson or some kind of wisdom. In most cases this is the fact that you must not underestimate the gods nor try to foul them. In these stories many people who were disobedient, greedy or tried to fool the gods, were punished in the most brutal ways. These stories were told all around the Greek world to make everyone aware that they must not copy their acts. This kept the people under control and also sort of scared. Here are 10 of the most brutal and painful punishments in Greek mythology.

1) Prometheus

Prometheus was a titan who was given the task to create mankind by Zeus. Prometheus was one of Zeus’ best friends at the time. This is why Zeus gave him this task. Prometheus formed tons of clay figueres in which Athena blew life with her breath. Prometheus was so in love with his creation that he would do anything to help them persevere. But Zeus had stated one thing: ‘Don’t give humans fire’. Zeus was afraid that this would make humans too powerful and that they would one day overtrhow the gods. Meanwhile Prometheus saw how his creation was struggling to survive in the wilderness and one night he could not resist anymore. At night he sneaked into Hephaistos’ balcksmith and stole a bit of fire from it. He gave it to the humans and ran off. The next day Zeus woke up and saw mankind making villages and smithing tools. When he realized what had happended he searched for Prometheus and when he found him he proceeded to chain him against a mountain. From now on…
