What triggers a smart, beautiful young woman, with an obvious fulfilling professional and personal life to develop an eating disorder?

I know a lot of average women who are not happy with their looks and are trying different kind of magic pills to mold their body into a goddess like shape, or at least close to the size of their friend who just lost a ton of weight and inspired them to do the same. That makes perfect sense to me.

Women choose to starve themselves in order to be a little more likeable, so this not news.

What i don’t get is why on earth would someone with the more than perfect proportions would ever deprive herself from important nutrients, which her beautiful body needs, just for the stupid reason to be skinnier that the last number on the scale?!

I know no healthy man whose sexuall appetite is triggered by the bones of a woman who weighs 20% less than she was supposed to be in order to be fertile.

I say healthy, because my strong belief is that you must be insane to desire a woman who is unable to have children. I speak purely from a primitive, carnal sexuality notion, without feelings immixture. Not that i sustain this kind of conjunction, on the contrary, i am convinced that human beings can be loved regardless of physical appearance, and one can fall in love with someone even with severe body impairments. As a matter of fact, the secret for the healing of this social alienation which drives women to slowly kill themselves is found in the kind of relationships above mentioned: if a sane man is not naturally attracted to an ill skinny woman ( because the primitive roots inside him tells him that she won’t be able to bear his children), there is no rational reason why a woman would continue this self destructive behaviour.

So, if she is not doing this because some rational causes, what could be the real trigger than the lack of emotionally understanding of the human value? Her inability to empathize and deeply perceive the others make her think that they won’t love her if she won’t be perfect. Hence, all the beauty rituals that she developed will become so addictive, that she will not be able to stop.

The most damaging is, of course, starvation, which destroys her body, and ultimately this poor lady will be too ill to have a chance to a normal life again. Anorexia is the deadliest from all the mental illnesses, so this is why so imperious to stop it from the very beginning.

But how? How to stop this amazing woman thinking she is worthless and no matter how perfect she will be on the outside she will never feel beautiful unless she realize what an wonderful human being lives inside her? She has value and nothing can take this away. When she will surpass her insecurities, no glam magazine or billboard model would be capable to make her feel less than perfect. Anorexia would have no power on her, because SHE KNOWS how beautiful she is.

Of course, the ailing thoughts will come sometimes, but the winner will send it to hell, with all the pleasure that comes from saying these words: Fuck you, Anorexia!
