Cookies
Final Idea + Recipe:
Sugar Sugar Cookies-
Sugar cookie mix, 1 egg, 6 TBS of butter, 1 handful of chopped strawberries, 2/3rds a bag of chopped gummy bears
Mix together the egg and the butter
Mix in the sugar cookie mix
Mix in the strawberries and the gummy bears
Roll into balls and put in the oven at 350 for 10–15 minutes, turning pan half way through as to cook evenly
Let cool for 5–10 minutes

Idea Generation:

My first idea was to use something involving pretzels since we have some in our cabinets and people seem to really love them. I then thought about things that went well with pretzels, naturally coming up next with chocolate and caramel. I realized that these would be extremely common combinations so I tried to think of something that might not usually mix with them like adding marshmallow and some sort of nougat or peanut brittle.
My second idea was something involving fruit as I realized that fruit is usually only seen in muffins and breads. My second conclusion was that fruit is usually only in oat based cookies so I decided to try and put it in a sugar cookie. I then decided to further spice that idea up by adding gummy bears and cinnamon.
Idea 1(.5) Test:

This was actually the second attempt at this general idea, originally I tried to melt nougat onto the cracker but it burned and had to be thrown away, after that failed attempt I started at this one.

Overall I decided not to continue with these cookies. They were very expensive and time consuming to make. The melting of the items also made the gram cracker base soggy. Overall, since I couldn’t find the right baking caramel locally, they were way to chewy for a cookie.
My Iteration for this cookie would be trying it with a nougat base and regular lighter caramel.
Idea 2 Test:
Cinnamon Double Sugar Cookie

To finish you roll into balls and place in the oven for about 10–15 minutes at 350 and then let cool.
Overall this is the version I decided to go with except I decided that the cinnamon was a bit too much. It seemed to make them a bit too sweet and added too many flavors.
Iteration:

The process and instructions were the same as the “Idea 2” test but this time I used no cinnamon and made sure not to accidentally melt all of the butter when I added it as shown in the first photo. For the full instructions refer to the Final Idea section.
Final thoughts:
I learned that sugar cookies don’t usually have fruit because it makes it harder for it to bake all the way through. The gummy bears and strawberries seemed to leak out a bit so I had to cut a lot of the sides off to make them more presentable. The gummy bears also make the cookies weirdly chewy in a way no one really desires from their sugar cookies.
On the bright side, the final flavors work quite nicely together despite the texture flaws. I would try making it again maybe without the gummy bears just for fun sometime.
