How to Connect Sonos Speakers

Connect Sonos Speakers

To get started with Sonos, you will need to purchase at least one speaker and a power supply unit (to plug into an outlet).

If you have multiple rooms in your home, you’ll also need more than one speaker to fill the house with sound.

Connect Sonos Speakers

These instructions will help you connect your first Sonos speaker so that you can start playing music through it right away!

Step Download the Sonos app

Step 1. Head over to Google Play or Apple’s App Store and download or update your app.

If you’re opening it for the first time, you’ll need to create an account; if not, log in using your existing credentials.

Step Download Wi-Fi settings: Your system comes with a yellow Quick Start Guide that includes essential instructions on how to set up your speakers.

Step 2. Connect Your Devices

There are two main ways to connect Sonos speakers. First, you can use a wired Ethernet connection for every speaker in your setup, which is best for rooms that have ethernet ports nearby.

Second, you can use Wi-Fi and powerline adapters if there aren’t any ethernet ports nearby or if you just want a more flexible setup.

No matter what kind of connection you choose, it’s really simple. If you’re using an ethernet cable, just plug one end into your router and then plug it into any speaker you want to add to your network.

Step 3. Start Listening

When you listen, you learn. To improve your listening, start by keeping a few pieces of paper and a pen by your bedside every night.

The next time you have an idea at night, write it down instead of trying to remember it in your sleep (which rarely works).

By having a physical record of these ideas, you’ll be able to go back and refer to them later on when you want to put them into action. This process helps reinforce learning and will help keep those creative juices flowing!

Connect to multiple Sonos systems

If you have multiple Sonos systems in your home, there are a few ways you can connect them.

You’ll need a place to store all of your music that can be accessed by all of your speakers (for example, on a network-attached storage device).

From there, you have a few options: shared libraries, separate libraries and synchronizing music.

If they don’t have their own library (such as kitchen or bathroom speakers), each speaker needs access to one single library — otherwise it will play different songs at once! To get all of your music onto one place, follow these steps:

  1. Copy all of your existing music files over to an external hard drive or a computer connected directly to an Airport Express router.
  2. Choose iTunes > Preferences from within iTunes and click Advanced.
  3. Check Share my library on my local network and choose which other computers you want to share with.
  4. Ensure that each connected system has iTunes open (and not playing anything else).
  5. Go to Edit > Preferences in iTunes, select Advanced, then click Change where it says Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library.
  6. In menu bar at top choose File > Library > Organize Library…
  7. Choose Consolidate Files if prompted. The next time you add new tracks or videos into iTunes, any duplicate content will be merged into one file for easy browsing later.
