I think it was Pico Iyer who said that, “we have more knowledge than ever and less time to make sense of it”. The challenge with all education is helping the students to make sense of what they are about to learn, to understand what’s at stake and also what’s possible for them.
My son files into his lectures at university with two hundred others. They sit side by side in silence — zero interaction, listening to a PhD student deliver a lecture that they will have forgotten by lunchtime.
The challenge is no longer access to knowledge, it’s how to make education more meaningful.
