Presenting IOTA at the Yocto Project Summit 2019
In case you come from the IOTA Community and you’re wondering what the Yocto Project is, watch this video before reading!
Indroducing: the Yocto Project:
Yocto Project Summit 2019
Philipp Blum represents the IOTA Foundation as Developer Advocate of the Ecosystem team. I (Bernardo Rodrigues) have been porting IOTA projects into the Yocto/OpenEmbedded world, which you can find at the meta-iota OpenEmbedder layer.
Philipp and I are glad to announce that we will be presenting an IOTA Workshop at the Yocto Project Summit 2019 (a.k.a. Dev Day).
The Yocto Project Summit, scheduled for October 31-November 1, 2019 at the Lyon Convention Centre, Lyon, France, is a technical conference for engineers, open source technologists, students and academia in the OSS space. Organized in conjunction with Linux Foundation’s Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2019, this 2-day event is where individuals will learn about Yocto Projects’ direction — including, but not limited to, new releases, development tools, features — get training on the next wave of embedded Linux technologies (segment previously known as Yocto Project Developer Day), and network with their industry peers, Yocto Project maintainers and experts.
The Embedded Linux Conference Europe (ELCE) is the premier vendor-neutral technical conference where developers working on embedded Linux and industrial IoT products and deployments gather for education and collaboration, paving the way for innovation.
This will be a great opportunity to spread the word about the exciting possibilities that the IOTA Tangle is bringing into the Embedded Linux world. This is even more exciting after hearing that The Linux Foundation and IOTA Foundation join forces through LF Edge.
On this workshop, we will present a few basic concepts about the IOTA DLT, such as:
- What is the Tangle?
- IOTA Nodes (Pre-Coordicide vs Post-Coordicide)
- IOTA Clients
We will also present the motivation behind meta-iota, as well as some details about the implementation of BitBake recipes for the following projects:
- cIRI
- CClient library
- c-iota-workshop (as a practical example of CClient usage)
- iota.go library
- go-iota-workshop (as a practical example of iota.go usage)
- iota.lib.py / PyOTA library
- python-iota-workshop (as a practical example of PyOTA usage)
- IOTA CLI App
- recipes-support (extra contributions to the OpenEmbedded community)
The workshop will happen on the second day of the Yocto Summit (Nov 1st), on Track 1, from 11:45 AM — 12:30 PM.
