Scott Shapiro: you raise an interesting point and one that could be implemented if the Etheruem Foundation created an unparalleled culture to foster innovation and hired some 70k employees. But that seems counterintuitive to a decentralized organization. My understanding of Fred’s suggestion (and one of the most interesting ideas of decentralization) is that the ehtereum blockchain could autonomously create incentives for self-improvement whereby individuals or groups of individuals could develop enhancements that create value for participants on the protocol. This would create a decentralized open source platform for development whereby contributors could be rewarded for the work they do. Modifications would require some form of governance (that the ethereum foundation could approve or put out for referendum) in the case of a fork. Id love to hear thoughts from folks on how to do this through an iterative innovation cycle — or even for feature development where specs are provided ahead of time (as it is with Tezos).
