I think it would be really naive, arrogant or even sad to think that there are no revolutionary…

Everything is an evolution; the revolutionary idea is a made up story.

Like a phone with a screen that you can touch and have apps on it. Its a phone. Its a computer. Its a platform; all of which existed and were then re-packaged into a nice product.

Like a taxi company that uses freelancers and dis-intermediates the middleman via an app to reach customers. All of which existed in their own ways before.

When we created the plant that changes colour when it grows on top of landmines we were celebrated as revolutionaries. All we did was to take colour change in plants — which already is known and understood — and apply it to a different genetic trigger which happens to be related to explosives and solve a different problem; landmines.

That is humanity at its best — re-iterating existing solutions and ideas into even better solutions and taking the next step.

So here is what is going to happen: AI and robots will displace manual labour. There’s no revolution in that — its just a logical next step. The world will run on renewable electricity — again, its just a logical next step; and so on. Actually its just us — homo sapiens in our slow adoption and conservative fearful ways that slows down this evolution and when it finally happens it appears to be revolutionary but its not; it was there all along we just didn’t realise the potential of our own innovation.
