The Opinion Festival

This weekend, ‘Arvamusfestival’ which basically translates to English as the ‘Opinion Festival’ called is taking place in Paide, the heart of Estonia. It’s an event that attracts people from all over the country to discuss and ponder upon topics of all kinds, including startups, technology, and innovation. So surely enough, Funderbeam will be present.

This Friday at 6:15 p.m., you can meet our Founder and CEO Kaidi Ruusalepp, for the ‘Republic of Estonia 100’ section where she will take part in a panel called ‘Roots or Seeds’. This forum taps into the recent startup boom in Estonia and the inevitable need for globalization that comes along with it and thus a question occurs — should we stay true to our roots or try to make our little country visible by scaling abroad?

Roots or seeds, that’s the question. Can global be local and can local be global? And will cultures and nations lose or win from globalisation? — Kaidi

Funderbeam itself has a very clear interest in this matter as a platform, Where Growth Companies are Funded and Traded Across Borders. We’re inherently global and are always looking for what’s next from this perspective but as many influential minds in our history have suggested, our roots play an integral part in our future. So, this topic should provide a real thought provoking and inspired discussion.

This Saturday at 11:30 a.m. our Cofounder, Urmas Peiker is stepping up on stage to address the topic of social innovation within the Estonian community and will participate in a panel called, ‘Communal Revolution = Social Innovation.’ Along with other prominent innovators in social business, Urmas will discuss how crowdfunding platforms like Funderbeam could help launch and grow impact focused businesses.

When I imagined how our Funderbeam Marketplace could function for growth companies’ to fundraise and trade, I initially considered it purely for commercial purposes. Only later, while I was listening to a panel discussion featuring Mr. Hamdi Ulukaya and President Toomas Ilves discussing the current refugee situation, did it hit me that our developed infrastructure could have a much broader usability and impact. — Urmas

Here is the panel discussion Urmas references if you wanted to watch and listen.

If you happen to be in Estonia this weekend, make it your mission to get to Paide so you don’t miss out on the speeches by our Funderbeam founders.
