“Once you accomplish X we’d be interested in funding you for Y.”
This is a carrot I’ve never seen pay off. Investors make bets. Any accomplishment you achieve resets the bet, meaning there will be new things to accomplish — along with new carrots.
This investor is a waste of the only thing more valuable than your time — your focus.
Prospective investors keep in touch with you as your story evolves but don’t make conditional promises of funding.
They either know enough to move forward into due diligence, which is generally a six month process anyway, or they don’t.
