Creation, Consciousness, and Free will — Part I
Disclaimer: This article is a result of extensive reading, debating and thinking. Though there are many of my original thoughts written here, I don’t claim any originality. Most of the content is purely speculative and need not be part of my belief system. I urge the readers to comment profusely so that these ideas can evolve.
Speculation 1 — The Creator is the programmer and the computer:
One common assumption among many physicists is that the Creator created the Universe with all the fundamental particles i.e electrons, quarks etc. along with all the physical laws governing them. The analogy is that the Creator is some kind of programmer who has written a program (physical laws) and left it for execution without any interference. The important aspect that has been left out of this analogy is the CPU. A program can’t run on its own, it has to be executed by a CPU. An electron can’t simply follow the rules of physics unless it has a brain of its own. The Creator has to do hand-holding for every action performed by the electron. Hence, the Creator is not only the programmer of the but also the computer that is running that program.
Speculation 2 — Either Free will doesn’t exist or some things can come into existence without a creator:
Some believe that there cannot be a creation without a creator. The same people also believe that Free will exists. If Free will exists, then it means that it has come out of a human and not prescribed by the Creator either directly on indirectly; which means it came into existence without a creator. So, we can safely conclude that either Free will doesn’t exist or some things can come into existence without a creator; probably the former is true.
Speculation 3 — Creation is a subset of the Creator:
If the Creator wanted to create an electron, where is She/He getting the material from? Is the material being taken from already existing material? If so, the only material that was existing was the Creator Himself/Herself. Does it mean that the Creation and Creator are one and same? At the least, Creation should be a subset of the Creator. This implies that all of us: humans, animals, planets etc. are not only Creation, but also part of the Creator. However, recall that we can come to this conclusion only if we assume that the Creator is not creating electrons from Nothingness.
Speculation 4: Creation and Creator are synonymous?
If Creation is a subset of the Creator; and the Creator is executing the laws of the Creation then why can’t we use the word Creation everywhere? Isn’t the word Creator a synonym of Creation?
Suggestion 1 — It is OK to defer judgement in the absence of evidence:
Why should we be forced to believe in anything in the absence of evidence? Why can’t we defer the judgement until we have enough evidence. For example, if my friend gives me a wrapped gift, I can wait until I open the gift before making any judgement of what is inside. There is no compulsion to believe that there is card or a sweet inside it. It should be perfectly OK to defer the judgement. If the box is impossible to open, then it is OK to defer the judgement of what is inside it forever.
