Shadowing the Shadower | Marissa
A couple of weeks ago, I received my first shadow. Everyone at Betagig had been shadowed before, but now it was my turn and I must say, it was a pleasant surprise. Marissa was a real go-getter with a passion for learning and true ambition. She was so curious and interested in learning more about my role. Since we like to focus our job shadowing experiences on hands-on learning, I thought I would give her an opportunity to guest write this week’s blog post.
“For many college students thinking about life after school is a bit daunting and stressful. Where will I work? Where will I live? Will I be able to support myself? The transition from being a student to a full-time employee is a critical period in life because it involves dedicating oneself to a specific area of expertise and gaining greater independence. College students often feel pressure to decide on a career even with little to no experience in their desired industry. This pressure and lack of experience can sometimes lead people to enter careers that are not the best fit for their skills and interests.
As a second year, I often contemplate my life after college and my future career path. I approach learning with an open mind and an eagerness to learn about a wide range of industries. My studies and experiences have led me to become interested in the field of digital marketing. For a while, my understanding of the field was restricted to my marketing experiences in student organizations and to researching the industry online. Earlier this month, I was lucky enough to have the unique opportunity to job shadow at Betagig with Monet, their marketing manager. From spearheading their social media initiatives to implementing new digital marketing strategies, Monet showed me how exciting and extensive her role is at Betagig. I was extremely impressed by her organization and attention to detail when engaging with different digital platforms. Monet helped me navigate Canva and gave me the creative freedom to design a college campus flier for Betagig. Having the opportunity to visit Betagig and speak with Monet has fueled my interest in pursuing digital marketing in the future.
I think Betagig’s services are invaluable to students like myself who feel pressure to figure out their career path but have little to no experience in their desired industry. Based off of my experience with Monet and Betagig, I believe job shadowing has the power to improve a person’s career path and inspire greater personal goals.”
