Without question, we have a pipeline problem when it comes to women in tech. If the author had focused his energy there, I would be 100% with you. But he didn’t. He emphasized that these differences are rooted in biology, and not societal. He also used the gender stereotype to suggest that diversity programs “lower the bar” and ultimately discriminate against men. I can’t speak for anyone else, but it was comments like those that I found extremely offensive.
What I find interesting is that my article likewise suggests that readers look past what’s offensive in his manifesto and focus on the issue — that diversity programs don’t work. I’m finding that the people who are opposed to my article are those that didn’t seem to read the whole thing.
