Exposing My Authentic Self in 2016

#365daysexposed

We like to build things in our culture. We like to measure and prove that we have made progress, getting from point A to point B. I suspect the deeper thing underneath our need for acquisition and achievement is that we have no true idea what we are doing on this planet and we crave meaning and purpose. Personally, I have been deeply tortured around purpose for a while now.

My fiancé and I sat for the last couple of days reflecting on 2015 and setting intentions for 2016. We watched a motivator’s video series about how to set goals and it felt empty and formulaic. Historically I have no problem getting what I want. I have had a problem wanting it once I have it. So, it leads me to distrust what I want with an air of predetermined disappointment.

What I have unlocked along the path is that if you create from scarcity, or from a problem mindset, you are pretty much guaranteed never to be gratified. Wait. You mean the entire formula for building companies is existentially fucked? Yeah. Pretty much. So if you don’t want to create from scarcity, you need to get to a place of abundance. How do you get to abundance?

I have spent the greater part of the last three years studying under an incredible teacher, Nicole Daedone, Founder of OneTaste. She founded the practice of Orgasmic Meditation, a partnered practice that increases sensation, awareness and connection in ways that humankind is deeply searching for. It looks like a sexual practice from the outside but in reality, it’s an energy generating, consciousness practice. Accelerated awakening. Really.

When you begin to have access to connection and truth at the deepest level you begin to realize that the ways you previously went about building your life, and your identity just don’t quite line up.

What on earth does Orgasmic Meditation have to do with goal creation for 2016? Everything. And here’s why. If you aren’t FULL, full as in “I am enough”, “I have enough”, “This moment right now is perfect as it is”, then by default you cannot create from a place of abundance. OM provides the kind of nourishment that gets you to abundance.

Not creating from a place of abundance? You are creating from scarcity and fear. Can’t tell if your goals are scarce? Trace the “why” behind your goal all the way to the deepest thing and if it is anything like “so people like me” or “so I don’t die alone”, then ding! ding! ding! — scarcity. Still like your goals? Get your crampons ready for another climb up Mt. Ungratifying.

I have personally climbed Mt. Ungratifying a few times now and I can send you a postcard if you haven’t yet made it to the top. What that means for me is that goals are not goals for the sake of goals to applaud my ego that I’m a good person anymore. They are desires for how I want my life to feel and how I want to live and show up in the world. It’s caused me to redefine what success looks like and what purpose is. And it has a lot more of “how does my simple existence help others?”.

One of my “goals” for 2016 is to be fully out in the world as my authentic self to share whatever it is that I have to give. Blogging everyday, showing up to uncloak myself everyday, in the most honest and authentic way possible, is one of the ways I will do that. I want to see how it changes my life. I feel like this is a good start. If one person reads this and it makes them think they want more in their life or makes them willing to share more of their life, then writing this is worth it. We don’t realize the impact we have on each other.
