Today as I was going through my hard disk to confirm details of successful business transactions I and my company here in Nigeria had fully done without problems I was really impressed not because we didn't suffer some losses but that at every year end of the calender report we always make profit. When we look at the whole channel of e-commerce we have the buyer, the seller and the means by which the product will get to the seller. In all of this chain of distribution something might go wrong especially if one side decide to act smart. For example the seller might advertise a fake product, a product low in quality or a product that doesn't exist. The seller might just create a product so as to get important information about the buyer especially his or her bank details. When it comes to the channel of distribution especially if it is international trade, there are instances of news of either cargo disappearance or stealing. And when it comes to the buyer,the buyer may decide to provide false information about himself down to false information about payment made so as to dope the seller,this is just a small aspect individuals fall to in their daily interactions with e-commerce. This makes individual do various transaction with doubt in them which are from the aspect of the buyer is the product authentic and his information protected and from the seller if this financial transactions is genuine.
I myself when I started participating in various aspect in e-commerce I lost a lot of money due to various fake transaction that I fell into, worst of it is that the money doesn't belong to me. Let me give you a scenerio
Dan is a young man who had generated most of his wealth from his trading at his local shop in his neighborhood to the time he was able to have about three retail shops in three towns of the present state he is living in Canada due to the high demand of some foreign named goods especially clothing materials he decided to be shipping in the material from both China and mid-east knowing that their clothing materials were one of the best in the world and at a lower cost but he needed a way to get in contact with the manufacturing industries in those countries out of eagerness Dan went to his laptop to search for textile industries in China where he saw several promising industries which are actively involved in exporting of their textile materials. On further reading of the information when searching through the Internet he came across a number which said on ways on how to buy and exportation of textile from China to anywhere one want in the world that the number should be called, Dan knowing fully well that it could be fraud took the risk of calling the number thinking that he knew all the methods present day scammer use to defraud people not knowing that with technology advancement scammers too have evolved. When the person picked up the phone both Dan and the owner of the phone number chatted and Dan decided that she want to talk on Skype which the lady behind the voice agreed Dan also asked to provide documents to prove that she was an agent of the manufacturing company which she gladly did with Dan been satisfied with what he saw decided to start Bussines immediately by wiring into her account $500,000 so as to purchase the cloths and to pay for shipping the lady told him that the shipping will arrive in two weeks time. Dan been so expectant put in place all mechanism to receive his goods only to wait till that time to see no delivery he immediately called the number but the number wasn't going through it was two weeks later he was able to get in touch with the real agent and he was told that their was no order for any goods purchased Dan quickly sent the document of the previous so called agent to the real agent with the real agent saying there was nobody with with the name and credentials with this information Dan broke down for two weeks and he his presently in the hospital.
