A note from Amy
I had intended to keep a journal during this campaign so that I can look back in a month, a year, or 50 years to better remember all that went into it: the struggles of being apart, the poetic love notes I get from Beto, the descriptions of the beautiful main streets of every little town we encounter, or the immense pride I feel when I get to see Beto speak in person.

But yet again, during my twelve days with Beto on the road at the beginning of August, I was utterly exhausted at the end of each day, and I never even opened my journal. As silly as the Facebook live stream feels at times, I know that I will look back and appreciate the recording of such an amazing experience.
To be honest, I was very nervous about the road trip. I wasn’t sure how our six year old, Henry, would hold up for that long on the campaign trail, in a different hotel each night, with little sleep, and long hours in the car.

I was also a little apprehensive about the “fly by the seat of your pants” road trip on air. For those who have travelled with Beto, you know he is one who needs a plan. I also wasn’t sure I wanted to be on the live stream….I hate being on camera!
Now that the kids are back in school, I can take a breath and reflect. Despite the reservations, the road trip was incredible. Because of the people that we met in person and those that joined the conversation remotely on Facebook, I felt a strong connection to and admiration for each place we stopped. Places like Uvalde, Del Rio, Andrews and Booker, TX — places that I might never pass through otherwise, became real to me.
People have been asking me about the road trip. How did we have the energy for it? Is Beto exhausted after so many days without a break? Truly, truly, the exhaustion hits, but not until you say goodnight to the last person at an event. The adrenaline that comes from seeing so many passionate people willing to step up and own this keeps you going.
While I was only on the road for 12 days, Beto is now on day 26. I am incredibly proud of Beto and his team for their endurance and determination to hear from as many Texans as they possibly can.

Thanks to all who came out (sometimes driving LONG distances) to meet with us. I hope to see many of you on the road when I get a chance to join Beto again.
Until then, all my best,
Amy
