I guess I would explain it like this Trip Kimball. Let's say only certain people were predestined and others were not. Let’s call the predestined ‘the elect’. The elect will face a far more difficult life than the non-elect (they will be conformed to the image of the Lord). The elect are called to be disciples, to suffer hardship for the Lord just as the original disciples did. He anoints His elect with an ear to discern His subtle promptings, which is His still small voice. Personally, I feel His promptings as a subtle fear or warning, like I explained in my post. It’s kind of like the lane-departure warning in new cars, it beeps when you go off course. I see this as different than the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Where the Spirit is the radio, the ability to discern His subtleties (to detect, respect, and be guided by the fear of the Lord) is the antenna (that may be a very bad example but the best I could think of presently). As for my reference to being justified, I meant it more generally to mean that God gave His elect everything they need to fulfill their purpose. He calls them and justifies His calling (empowers them, indwells them with all they need to carry out His commands). I hope that explains where I was coming from. Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate them.
