From my position in a Western country, having never experienced a real blackout, I can say that this sounds quite refreshing! That sense of community that comes form people actually having to interact with each other in the absence of anything “better” to do is hard to foster. However, I can imagine that it also causes myriad problems too — ones that I cannot even begin to fathom. I do appreciate your point about people having to prove that they are happy online rather than actually just *being* happy in the ‘real’ world…it does feel like things are a little out of whack.
