23 Days to Go: Turning 50! 50 GlowTips I’m sharing to Spread the Glow!
23 Days to go until I turn 50! So I’ve decided to share 50 GlowTips to Get Your Glow ON — one per day, in no particular order of importance and just as they come to me…
And here’s GlowTip 28: We’re not all mind-readers — speak UP and communicate clearly!
No matter how well someone knows us, or how close we are in any relationship — whether they’re our closest loved ones, or our work colleagues — we can eliminate so many frustrations and resentments when we speak up and communicate clearly.
We set ourselves up for hurt and disappointment when we assume that others should know what we think, how we feel, or what we want and need.
But there’s no point getting all pissy and huffy and blaming other people because they’re not “getting it”, if we haven’t actually communicated it clearly. We’re not all mind-readers!
Most of the time, we’re all just getting on with our own stuff and wrapped up in our own thoughts. And it’s hurtful when someone’s getting all passive-aggressive and making snarky comments, or worse — shutting us out completely, when we don’t even know what the problem is!
So often we’re sending out mixed signals — saying Yes, when we really want to say No and not saying what we really mean. And then getting upset when no-one understands us — because we’re too afraid to say how we really feel or to admit what we really want.
The best way to improve our relationships and our lives — is to be willing to communicate honestly and openly. Because we won’t get what we want, until we state what we want! And we can’t assume other people know what that is.
We’ve got to be willing to speak UP for ourselves, to speak our truth and say what we really mean. We all want to be understood. But we can’t blame the other person, if we’re not communicating clearly!
We may not find it easy to say what we think and how we feel. But it’s a lot easier than dealing with the fallout, if we don’t!
So please don’t be afraid to speak from your heart (and even if you are — speak UP anyway!). Say what you mean, show UP for your happiness and Get Your Glow On!
