34 Days to Go: Turning 50! 50 GlowTips I’m sharing to Spread the Glow!
34 Days to go until I turn 50! So I’ve decided to share 50 GlowTips to Get Your Glow ON — one per day, in no particular order of importance and just as they come to me…
And here’s #GlowTip 17: We free ourselves when we surrender, let go and go with the flow!
One of my highest values that I live by is freedom. I’ve been described as a “free spirit” because I won’t be boxed in. I’m mentally and physically claustrophobic. I need open space in my mind and in my life.
I crave the freedom to think for myself and to decide for myself how I live my life.
I hate the idea of anyone or anything having control over me.
I have always craved the freedom to be myself.
But the irony is, that I’ve also been afraid of freedom. I’ve always found it difficult to let go. I’ve always found it difficult to move on gracefully. Sometimes I’ve clung on to situations and relationships and even things that were waaaay past their sell-by date.
It’s a control thing. It’s the fear of not being in control. But we can’t control the universe. And by trying to control anything other than ourselves, we set ourselves up for frustration and failure.
It’s a lot harder to cling on to something that is not working. Hanging on to sadness, pain, resentments, disappointments and anything that is not UPlifting and empowering us, makes it hard to move forward when we’re shlepping that heavy baggage around!
There is huge relief in the freedom of surrender and letting go.
At first I didn’t understand the meaning of ‘surrender’. I thought it meant giving up– and that wasn’t something I was prepared to do. I’m a very persistent person. But sometimes circumstances force us to stop and change direction.
And we can cry and wail and moan… or we can let go and go with the flow!
“Vot vos, vos” is an old Yiddish saying that always makes me smile.
And hanging onto ‘what was’ is exhausting and self-defeating. Because Life is change and the Universe is in perpetual motion.
Surrender begins with acceptance. Stuff happens. Life is what it is. And telling yourself that you “just can’t face it” is unproductive and futile.
Because it’s only when accept the situation as it is, that we can decide what we’re going to do to about it.
Accepting the situation doesn’t mean we have to give up on what we want.
It doesn’t mean we have to resign ourselves to being stuck where we are.
But, it allows us to step into our power to choose — what do I want, and where to from here?
Imagine who you would be if you let go of your fears, resentments, worries and woes. And then be willing to let them go!
Because when we choose to dump the deadweight and lose the blues — we free ourselves to Rock our Happiness and Spread the Glow!
